  • New milestone in the region’s technology industry with the first Design of a Security Application Integrated Chip
  • The design center at DSO contributes to enhancing Dubai’s position on the international IC Design map Dubai - UAE, June 19, 2008: Dubai Circuit Design (DCD), the region’s first Design Center for physical implementation of advanced integrated circuits and a 100% owned center by Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), announced today the conclusion of the region’s first design of an advanced integrated circuit. The SMC chip was designed using Synopsys’ proven EDA tools and Pilot Design Environment.

The region’s first integrated circuit was designed using 65 nanometer manufacturing process technology from TSMC, the world’s largest semiconductor foundry. The test chip is designed for data security applications and contains around 22 million transistors. This encryption/decryption chip was implemented using special low-power design techniques to minimize power consumption.

The Dubai Circuit Design (DCD) team was formed to perform advanced IC design. It's careful to point out that it's not competing strictly on cost, but on its ability to deliver on challenging designs at a competitive price. Members of the team are pulled from around the region, including Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia and India. A partnership with EDA tool provider Synopsys allows it to pull on that company's experts when needed, and its servers are identical to Synopsys' so that design teams from around the world can access the designs and make changes in real time over an interface and toolset they're familiar with.
